A devastating explosion rocked a Michigan neighborhood, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives and leaving two others injured. The incident, which occurred on Saturday in Washtenaw County, about 10 miles north of Ann Arbor, completely demolished a single-family residence.
The explosion, described by a nearby neighbor as resembling a bomb blast, was reported around 3:50 p.m. The impact of the explosion was so severe that it created a debris field covering roughly two acres. Northfield Township Police Lt. David Powell, in a statement on Sunday, detailed the initial response: “Upon arrival, police and fire personnel found a single-family residence to be completely destroyed.”
Six individuals were reported to be in the house at the time of the explosion. Emergency responders found three people dead at the scene, while three others were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, one of those hospitalized succumbed to their injuries.
Residents in the vicinity recounted the terrifying moment of the blast. Scott McMillian, who lives about a mile away, compared the sound of the explosion to his memories of war, highlighting the intensity of the blast.
